Additional Professional Organizations

Professional organizations, associations, and societies assist historical organizations learn, network, and often provide professional development.  By joining, organizations enhance their learning and create additional opportunities to grow.

omaOhio Museums Association: OMA provides professional networking and development with museums at workshops and conferences throughout Ohio.

Association of Midwest Museums:  Membership is available to museums of all sizes and to all individuals associated with a museum in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

ohaOral History Association: OHA provides historians, librarians and archivists, students, journalists, and teachers with professional guidance and an environment for sharing research. Members enjoy a connection to oral historians worldwide and other valuable benefits.

alhfamAssociation for Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums: ALHFAM provides professional training and support to traditional museums.  Membership is open to all those involved in living historical farm, agricultural museums, and outdoor museums history and folklife.

American Association for State and Local History: aaslhAASLH provides leadership and support for its members who preserve and interpret state and local history in order to make the past more meaningful to all Americans.

Association for the Study of African American Life and History: ASALH promotes the interpretation and dissemination of research about African American life, history, and culture.  Membership is open to those is every field of history.

Immigration and Ethnic History Society: Membership is open to all persons interested in North American immigration and ethnic history.

American Association for Museum Volunteers:  AAMV membership is open to all museum volunteers and employees.

afamAssociation of African American Museums: AFAM is a non-profit member organization established to support African and African American focus museums nationally and internationally.

American Alliance of Museums:  The Alliance has membership available for both individuals and institutions.  This organizations is for “art museums to zoos” and everything in between.

oahOrganization of American Historians:  Membership is open to anyone interested in the investigation, study, and teaching of American history, such as university professors, high school teachers, students, archivists, and public historians.

American Historical Association: AHA brings together historians throughout the field and across geographical, chronological, and topical specialization and from all work contexts.  Membership is open to all American historians regardless of specialization.
